Ladies Highlights 2017

The December committee meeting was cancelled as half of the ladies were not able to attend.  We look forward to the   drive off for the men ladies and junior captains on January 6th and hope for a successful year in 2018.

The annual Christmas dinner was held in the clubhouse and once again it was an enjoyable although rather quiet evening. We had not arranged  the usual sing song of twelve days of Christmas and the stand up bingo but we did have a good raffle. Unfortunately in the week befiore the dinner the section was paid a visit by a "lurgey" which affected a number of lady members  who were unable to attend due to sickness.

The ladies club championship produced a new  winner this year from the previous few years.  Mrs Susan Handley has won the title several times some years ago and gained victory this year from runner up Mrs Janet Ross. Susans game has improved so much in the past couple of years and consistently plays to her low handicap as shown in her success as part of the Durham county vets squad.

The section re-introduced the qualifier for the Ping 4BBB tournament this year and  we had an entry accepted for the main championship with a really good score of 47 points. Stacey Allen and Jo Dean  travelled down with their respective partners and although they enjoyed the experience  they were not in the top six. Perhaps next year!

Success again for the afternoon scratch Anderson league team. After progressing last season fromthe 5th to the 4th division the team gained another victory this season in winning the 4th division and for 2018 they will play in the third division. Well done ladies.

The annual two night break this year was held at Linden Hall and apart from the problem with the weather which made the availability of buggies  and   playing the course very difficult the weekend was a great success. Thank you to the Lady Captain who liased with Linden in arranging the weekend.

The annual away day was held at Bedlington shire golf club. Weather was brilliant which made the golf more enjoyable.  The course was an enjoyable challenge and the catering afterwards was great.. Congratulations to all the winners.

Susan  Handley continues to be included in the Durham county vets squad and does Heworth proud in achieving considerable success in her matches against other counties.
